BATON ROUGE – In the early 1980s with a dream of playing college basketball, F. King Alexander eyed LSU as a possible destination. While he ultimately played four years of college basketball for St. Lawrence University in New York, years later, he has been tabbed to “run the point” in a much larger capacity.

Alexander, president of California State University Long Beach, has been recommended by the Presidential Search Committee as the consensus candidate for the position of President of LSU.

“It is indeed a great honor for me to be nominated to be president of this very, very great and fine institution,” Alexander said. “I’m humbled that the Board of Supervisors would put their faith and trust in me to be the administrator of this great and important university with its reach to every parish throughout the state, from Shreveport to New Orleans.”

LSU MBA Program Leaps 20 Spots on list of best graduate schools

BATON ROUGE – The LSU Flores MBA Program made a significant 20-spot leap overall in U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Graduate Schools” ranking for 2014. U.S. News & World Report ranked the LSU Flores MBA Program at 61 overall and 31 among public institutions.

“This latest ranking is a testament to the efforts of our MBA staff, faculty, students and graduates,” LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business Dean Richard D. White Jr. said. “I expect our new online MBA curriculum to provide even more students with the quality curriculum and value that U.S. News & World Report has recognized in the LSU Flores MBA Program.”

Ed Watson, director of the LSU Flores MBA Program and associate dean for Graduate Programs at the E. J. Ourso College, stated the program’s ranking was likely influenced by the opening of the Business Education Complex and the caliber of students entering the program.

LSU Coastal Sustainability Studio Launches Website

BATON ROUGE – The free Louisiana Resiliency Assistance Program, or LRAP, run by the LSU College of Art & Design’s Coastal Sustainability Studio, or CSS, has launched a website, www.resiliency.lsu.edu, which provides village, town, city and parish governments with a profusion of informational resources, access to professional experts, a platform for networking between jurisdictions and a webinar and workshop series, “Planning for a Resilient Future.”

The purpose of the new website is to serve as a tool to help Louisiana municipalities prepare for an uncertain future in the dynamic coastal environment.

Louisiana communities face serious vulnerabilities related to natural disasters and climate change: sea level rise land subsidence, changes in rainfall patterns, wetlands loss, storm surge and increased storm strength, to name but a few. Most of these communities, however, do not have access to the resources or expertise needed to adequately address these serious issues. The new LRAP website fills this gap.

LSU Alumnus Lonnie J. Dore Appointed to College’s Advisory Board

BATON ROUGE – Lonnie J. Dore, former vice president of sales and vice president of information technology with Kellogg’s, has been appointed to LSU University College’s Advisory Board.

“I am excited to be named to University College’s Advisory Board,” Dore said. “LSU helped me lay down a solid foundation that helped me throughout my business career. I truly do not think I would have been half as successful without gaining my experience and education from our great university. After 36-years in the work place, I am excited to help young people achieve their goals. I believe we are very lucky to have such a great university in our state that really cares for its students. I look forward to giving back to LSU and University College as it afforded me a solid foundation to start my professional career.”
