Men honor the ladies at Union Baptist

The Union Baptist Church in Zachary celebrated Mother’s Day with the men of the church serving the ladies.  The men spoke, sang and served refreshments.  Union Baptist is located on Old Slaughter Road and is under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Lynn Alexander.

On Monday, August 22,  from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Chili's, 4550 Constitution Avenue in  Baton Rouge, will donate 10 percent of sales to Family Service of Greater Baton Rouge

Patrons will have to present a copy of the Family Service's flyer to get the discount.   A copy of the flyer can be accessed on www.fsgbr.org

Family Service of Greater Baton Rouge counsels and strengthens individuals and families improving their quality of life.  The organizaiton says it is the only one-stop shop for comprehensive counseling and education for all.

Enjoy food and fun at "Eat for the Arts" tonight

Food. Fun. Live entertainment. If you're looking for some great eats tonight, check out the Perkins Historic Merchants District Association  "Eat for the Arts.

The event is tonight, June 6, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.. Customers can "hop” along Perkins Road by the Overpass, from South Acadian Thruway until Kalurah Street and taste food and drinks from more than 20 of Baton Rouge’s best restaurants and merchants!

Proceeds will benefit the  Community Fund for the Arts. 

Ove Dance, Music, and Art performances from Baton Rouge’s premier arts organizations will also line the road for a fun, festival atmosphere. Free Park and Ride is available at The Foyer and Juban’s Restaurant parking lot. Pre-sale tickets are available for $30 at www.perkinshistoricmerchants.org; Tickets are $35 at the door.

The Community Fund for the Arts is a united fundraising campaign that provides operational support to 14 arts organizations in Baton Rouge.

Eat Tacos and Support a Good Cause

The Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) Secretary Bruce D. Greenstein will serve lunch to Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Secretary Ruth Johnson on Friday, Dec. 3 at the Taco de Paco food truck on North St. at Fourth St., outside of the Bienville Building.

All proceeds will benefit the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. Lunch begins at 12:15 p.m.

In October, the secretaries challenged each other to the Louisiana Twitter Race. They agreed that the person with the fewest tweeter followers would have to serve the other person lunch.

Taco de Paco has created a special healthy taco for the occasion called "Salud," made with sautéed Mahi Mahi fish, oven roasted tomatoes, lemon zest, baby arugula, and parmigiana reggiano.

The Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center has been fighting cancer for more than 35 years.  It has comprehensive cancer programs at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge and St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington.

Restaurants Unite to Promote Gulf Seafood

Galatoire's Bistro, Prejean's Restaurant, Whole Foods Market, and Zea Rotisserie and Grill in Baton Rouge and Lafayette are participating in tonight's first "America's Night Out for Gulf Seafood."

The idea is to show that seafood from the Gulf of Mexico is safe after BP's massive oil spill earlier this year. The restaurants will be serving a special dish featuring oysters, fish, shrimp, and crabs from the Gulf.

About 275 restaurants are participating nationwide.

CAAWS: Chili's supports CAAWS!

Chili's is teaming up with CAAWS to support our organization. On Tuesday November 23rd, if you eat lunch or dinner (11am - close) at the Chili's at 1615 Millerville Road they will give CAAWS 10% of your check.
