“We are going through a situation now economically where we are seeing revenue reduced over the last few years, obviously because of a recession. It has put a burden on Baker and not only on Baker, but a lot of cities throughout the state and country.” Those were the words of Mayor Harold Rideau, City of Baker, who was a recent speaker for the Baton Rouge Early Risers Kiwanis.
Mayor Rideau said the cost is going up and the City of Baker has to compete with Baton Rouge, Central, Zachary and other places. The Mayor explained that they have to pay salaries, maintain buildings and retirement. “We have seen health insurance go up and we don’t know where it’s going, but we have to maintain it,” he said.
