Dog wandering I-10 captures the hearts of many | News
BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB)- A young dog seen wandering on the interstate and nearly hit by several vehicles Thursday morning was still shaken up later in the day, but is fine physically.
There were gasps across the Baton Rouge area as the incident was captured by traffic cameras just before 7 a.m.
Many people contacted WAFB-TV after witnessing events unfold to find out the status of the dog.
She was stuck on I-10 East just before the I-10/I-110 Split. The dog walked across the lanes of traffic and at one point found herself directly in the path of an oncoming 18-wheeler.
Fortunately, the trucker was able to stop before hitting the dog or causing any other type of crash.
The pooch was scooped up by a Motor Assistance Patrol (MAP) driver and taken to Companion Animal Alliance.
Workers at the animal control facility reported the female deep Chocolate Labrador could use some more weight, but is in good condition otherwise. They said there were no obvious injuries.
She had on a collar, but no name tag and no chip.
It is believed the dog was dumped near the location where it was wandering.
She will be spayed and given all of her shots. If the owner doesn't claim her in three days, she will be available for adoption.
The number to call is 225-774-7701.
