BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB)- Mayor Pro Tem Mike Walker is expected to formally announce later in the day his intentions to run for mayor, but he made an informal announcement about seeking the position on Talk 107.3 FM Tuesday morning.
Walker, the current councilman for District 8, appeared on the radio with Matt Kennedy and Brian Haldane to field questions from Baton Rouge citizens on various topics.
Walker told the audience he believes there is a priority spending problem in the city-parish.
On the topic of education, Walker said he is in favor of vouchers and charter schools.
He added the proposed new school district for the parish merits some looking into.
Walker has hinted for months about running for mayor in the next election.
He has called a 1:30 p.m. news conference, where he is expected to say he is officially entering the race.
It will take place at the Cortana Mall, Entrance 3, which is near the Around Town studio.
