Firefighters sport Pink Tees

Be on the look-out for firefighters in pink. St. George firefighters are again taking part in the “Care Enough to Wear Pink” campaign.

From Tuesday, October 25 through Thursday, October 27, St. George firefighters will swap their “station blues” for specially designed pink tees. It’s all for breast cancer awareness.

The t-shirts are also available for purchase for $15. Proceeds will go to Women's Hospital.

Big Crowd turns out for Wigs' Event

It was standing-room only at the "Wigs, Martinis, and Bow Ties" event on Friday, Oct. 7. At the event which was held at the Shaw Center downtown, guests were asked to bring a wig to donate to Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge.

It was sponsored by the La Capitale Chapter of the Links. The members honored their Link sister, Lynn Dickerson, who recently died from breast cancer.

The event was chaired by Paula Clayton under the direction of President Jacqui Vines, who is senior vice president and general manager of Cox Greater Louisiana.

"Wigs, Martinis, and Bow Ties"

 La Capitale Chapter of the Links, Incorporated will present "Wigs, Martinis and Bow Ties" on Friday, October 7, at Manship Theatre Gallery in the Shaw Center for The Arts, 100 Lafayette Street, in Baton Rouge from from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Tickets are $75.00 per person. Guests are asked to bring a wig to the affair to be donated to Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge. There will be cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and live music. Tickets can be purchased at www.manshiptheatre.org or contact the ticket office at 225-344-0334.

The Links, Incorporated is an international, not-for-profit corporation, established in 1946. It is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of extraordinary women. La Capitale was chartered as a chapter of the Links, Incorporated in 1986.

Youth Talent Showcase Huge Success at LCHE Community Health Fair

BATON ROUGE, September 26 – Louisiana Center for Health Equity (LCHE), in partnership with BREC and Our Lady of the Lake College, hosted its second annual “Your Community Health is Wealth” Fair in Baton Rouge on September  24. 

Youth performers displayed their talents singing, dancing and stomping to music of their choice.  Hundreds gathered to watch the performances as the youth displayed their talents and to take advantage of the various resources available to them.  Youth participated in hula hoop and jumping rope competition and other activities as fun ways to exercise and increase physical fitness.

The health fair, which was free and open to the public, took place at BREC’s Howell Community Park. There were over 30 information booths, as well as, health, dental and vision screenings, and HIV testing.

LCHE hosts community health fair

BATON ROUGE – Louisiana Center for Health Equity (LCHE), in partnership with BREC and Our Lady of the Lake College, is hosting its second annual “Your Community Health is Wealth” Fair in Baton Rouge on Sept.  24.

The health fair, which is free and open to the public, will take place at BREC’s Howell Community Park, 5509 Winbourne Avenue, beginning at 1 p.m. There will be more than 30 information booths, as well as, health, dental and vision screenings, and HIV testing.  Applications for Medicaid will be taken on site.  “We are pleased to have so many resources with valuable services together in this community locale, including the Mobile Pregnancy Care Center this year providing free pregnancy testing and ultrasound if  test results are positive,” said Alma C. Stewart, LCHE President.

The fair will also provide fun, educational activities for children of all ages and their parents such as, carnival styled activities and musical entertainment.
