Pastor: There's nothing anybody can do but pray | Families

The Gaines’ pastor says the family needs the community’s support and prayers now more than ever.

Rev. Roosevelt Noland of New Christland Baptist church in Baton Rouge tells WAFB Channel 9 that he has talked with Minister John Gaines, the husband, father, and grandfather of the victims.

“This is devastating,” says Rev. Noland. “They’ve lost three generations-the wife, the daughter and the grandchildren.  We need the prayer of the community. We need their support to help hold this family up. There’s nothing else anybody can do,  but pray.  Can’t nobody help them through this but the lord.  Pray and support them so we can get them through this and start the healing process.”

Funeral services are set for Friday at 11 a.m. at Living Faith Christian Center for the Gaines’ family.

Rev. Noland tells Channel 9 that the grandmother Brenda was a praying woman.

“She and her daughter always traveled together," he says. "They were going to church at least three times a week. She had prayer meeting in her yard and at her house.  She was a praying woman.  This is real stunning. You have somebody who is out of control and nothing happened to him, but all those people who were trying to do the right thing, they get annihilated.  That’s rough. I don’t understand.”
