Former Shaw Chairman isn't ruling out running for office | Events
The former chairman of the Shaw Group says he isn’t ruling out running for public office.
"I've had 25 years of working for 120 hours a week flying around the globe and working as hard as I possibly could," Jim Bernhard said during a speech at the Press Club Monday, April 22. He was responding to a question of whether or not he plans to run for office.
"I only retired eight weeks ago," he said. "Give me some time to take a deep breath, start my new company, and we’ll get things done that need to be done.”
It’s been widely circulated that Bernhard, a democrat, plans to run for governor.
He told Press Club members about his new private equity company called Shaw Capital Partners. He plans to raise $2 to $3 billion in equity in the energy and infrastructure industry.
Bernhard also encouraged everyone to get on ‘team Louisiana” and focus on the most important issue in our state which is education.
“We need to have an education summit,” he says.
Community and business leaders and other stakeholders need to come up with an education plan, hire people to administer the plan and support that plan with dedicated funds.
“What’s more important year in and year out than higher education."
