CNN’s Bryan Monroe appeared on WAFB 9News This Morning to talk about the upcoming "Diversity in the Media" Forum. The forum will be held tonight, Monday March 18 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Baton Rouge Community College’s Magnolia Performing Arts Theater, 201 Community College.

The forum entitled “Diversity in the Media: Covering the Total Community” will look at how communities are covered in the media as well as staffing diversity in the newsrooms.

It will include a panel discussion featuring Monroe, editor of CNNPolitics.com and a former editor and news executive with Knight Ridder as well as a former vice president and editorial director of Ebony and Jet magazines and a former president of the National Association of Black Journalists; Fred Kalmbach, managing editor of The Advocate; Vicki Zimmerman, Region 1 news director for Raycom Media, parent company of WAFB; Chuck Bark, news director at WBRZ; and Josh Grimm, an assistant professor at the Manship School whose research focuses on representations of race in journalism, particularly portrayals of immigrants and immigration legislation.

Maxine Crump, executive director of Dialogue on Race Louisiana, will serve as moderator.

The event is sponsored by the Baton Rouge Area Association of Black Journalists and LSU's Manship School of Mass Communication in partnership with Baton Rouge Community College.

It is free and open to the public. There will be a question and answer period for the public.
