Baton Rouge, La. (March 11, 2013) – Capital One Bank’s KidzBANK, an interactive experience that introduces elementary and middle school students to banking and teaches them the importance of developing a savings habit recently opened at Bernard Terrace Elementary School in Baton Rouge.
Students will learn banking basics through the school-based, student-operated “bank branch” under the guidance of their teachers and Capital One Bank branch associates. Students will make weekly deposits into individual student accounts. Ten students were selected to serve as bankers following training conducted by teachers and Capital One Bank staff. Lisa Lee and Denage Bradley, the branch manager and assistant branch manager, respectively, at Capital One Bank’s Government Street office, along with their associates, will guide students and teachers in running the KidzBANK throughout the year. In addition, Capital One Bank will provide the school with backpacks full of school supplies for students who have reached their Accelerated Reader and Edusoft testing goals, as well as art supplies for each classroom and medical supplies for the school nurse’s office.
Capital One Bank Baton Rouge Area President Ric Kearny says parents will play a vital role in the KidzBANK program. “Capital One Bank takes pride in fostering financial fitness through the KidzBANK program,” he said. “The most valuable thing parents can provide is a model of good saving habits at home to reinforce the financial education lessons their children receive at Bernard Terrace Elementary School.”
