The legacy will continue at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Baton Rouge.
Rev. Fred Jeff Smith was recently elected the new pastor of the church. He’s following his father, Rev. Charles Smith, who pastored the church for 50 years and his grandfather, Rev. Dudley Smith.
“It’s awesome,” Rev. Smith tells 9News Neigborhoods. “They have more than 80 years of service to this one congregation. I’m so appreciative to be able to walk in their footsteps.”
Rev. Smith grew up in the church, but left in 1986 to pursue his career in the ministry. He pastored the First Free Mission Baptist Church in New Orleans and most recently served as pastor of Greater Mount Carmel Baptist Church for 21 years.
“I hope to continue to sustain the level of excellence that Shiloh has already achieved in being an agent of salvation and a good community partner,” Rev. Smith said.
He will start at Shiloh on the first Sunday in March.
