Funeral Services set for Former NAACP President | Events

Funeral services for George Eames Jr., who served as former president of the Baton Rouge NAACP for more than 20 years, will be held starting Friday, Dec. 14.
Eames died Saturday, Dec. 8. He was 79.
Visitation will be held Friday at Resthaven Gardens of Memory Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and the funeral will be held Saturday, Dec. 15 at True Light Baptist Church at 1p.m., 3836 North Street, in Baton Rouge.
"In my opinion, he was an extraordinary man who did an enormous amount of work to make sure all people were treated equally and fairly,' former NAACP President Lamont Cole tells 9News Neighborhoods. "Our city is a better place as a result of the work that he did."
Eames was a plaintiff in a 1956 lawsuit that led to the desegregation of schools in East Baton Rouge. He also worked on behalf of those with disabilities.
