NBA Player Tyrus Wayne Thomas with the Charlotte Bobcats who played college basketball at LSU will be speaking to students at three schools in East Baton Rouge Parish on Friday, Aug. 17.
Thomas, a McKinley High School graduate, in partnership with Volunteers In Public Schools (VIPS), will kick-off his “Step Up to the Challenge" Campaign that encourages students to stay in school, make smart decisions, and serve their community. Members of the LSU Omega Psi Phi fraternity will accompany Thomas on his school tours and perform several “steps” with positive messages.
As part of a foundation he has established, Thomas reaches out to middle and high school students with a message to stay in school and make good decisions. Volunteers In Public Schools is an independent nonprofit that fosters student success and builds support for public education.
