Funeral services set for former Baker Fire Chief | Community Spirit

Funeral services for former Baker Fire Chief Thomas Woods will be held on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 1 p.m. at Greater Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 1414 Sora Street, in Baton Rouge.  Viewing is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In addition, a viewing and Memorial Service will also be held on Friday, Nov. 11 at Hall’s Mortuary, 9348 Scenic Highway.  Viewing is from 4 to 8 p.m. and the Memorial Service starts at 6 p.m.

Thomas was the first African American fire chief in Baton Rouge and Baker. He was also a former member of the EBR Metro Council. He served as a firefighter for more than 32 years. He was 76 years old.
