Hurricane Preparedness tax-free holiday starts Saturday | Business
Now's the time to stock up on hurricane supplies. The sales tax holiday for hurricane preparedness items will be held May 26 and May 27.
Residents will not have to pay the four percent state sales tax on a list of items like flashlights and candles, weather radios, waterproof sheeting, gas or diesel fuel tanks, batteries and chargers and storm shutter devices. The sales tax holiday exempts the first $1,500 of the purchase price.
Local sales taxes still apply unless the municipality exempted them.
Hurricane season begins June 1.
