SU Ag Center to host Boot Camp for small businesses

Baton Rouge - The U.S. Small Business Administration will hold HUBZone Boot Camp at Southern University Ag Center on May 16 from 9 a.m. to noon.  Registration and Networking will begin at 8 a.m. in Room 138, A.O. Williams Hall.

This boot camp for residents of Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) is themed “HUBZone – Creating Jobs Where They are Needed Most.” The event is free and open to the public. A new Mexican restaurant is opening at Perkins Rowe in Baton Rouge. Lava Cantina will host its grand opening on Friday, April 5.   The restaurant will feature fresh, Mexican dishes with a Rock 'n Roll decor.

Lava Cantina has delayed its grand opening, but customers won't have to wait too long. The new Mexican restaurant  which was set to open on April 5 will now open on April 11 at 4 p.m. The restaurant will feature fresh, Mexican dishes with a Rock 'n Roll decor.

SU Ag Center to hold free ‘Non-Profit Start-Up’ Workshop

The Center for Rural and Small Business Development in the Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center will hold a “Non-Profit Start-Up” workshop from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Tuesday, February 5 in room 191, A.O. Williams Hall, 181 B. A. Little Drive, in Baton Rouge, LA 70813.

The workshop is free and open to the public.

Workshop attendees will receive information on how to start a viable, operational non-profit organization, and the steps to receiving 501© 3 tax exempt status.

Eduniversal Ranks LSU MPA in Top 20, MS Finance in Top 40

Eduniversal Ranks LSU MPA in Top 20, MS Finance in Top 40

 

BATON ROUGE – Eduniversal has announced its 2012-2013 ranking of the best 4,000 masters programs for 30 majors and has included the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business Public Administration Institute, or PAI, and Department of Finance in the mix. The worldwide ranking body designated PAI’s Master of Public Administration as 19th in North America and LSU’s Master of Science in Finance curriculum as 40th in North America. This is the second annual edition of these Eduniversal rankings, which are separate and unrelated to its global rankings for business schools.

PAI appeared in the same position in Eduniversal’s inaugural rankings last year, holding fast to its spot. According to PAI Director Jim Richardson, the institute is very proud of its alumni and pleased with this international recognition.

“The LSU MPA has built a reputation over 40 years,” Richardson said. “Our graduates are holding top positions in various levels of government, not for profit organizations and private industry.”

Voodoo BBQ coming to Perkins Rowe

 

Voodoo BBQ and Grill is opening a new location at Perkins Rowe in Baton Rouge.

"We felt like it was a no brainer," Owner Joseph Scardino tells 9News Neighborhoods.  "We were amazed that the spot we wanted was empty for so long."

The restaurant will be located next to the movie theater. It's slated to open March 1.

"It'll be a great location," Scardino says.

He is in the process of hiring about 45 employees. This will be the third location in the Baton Rouge area.

BATON ROUGE – LSU would like to remind Tiger fans who are shopping for bowl game or LSU memorabilia for the holidays to look for the “Officially Licensed Collegiate Product” label when purchasing LSU merchandise. This label assures the consumer that the product has been approved and represents the goodwill of the university. Products that do not bear the label, but use the marks of LSU, may represent trademark infringement.
