WAFB Personalities participate in Read Across America | Arts & Culture
Title (Max 100 Characters)
Our very own Johnny Ahysen, Keitha Nelson, and Tyana Williams took some time off from their newsroom duties to read to children in East Baton Rouge Parish schools.
It was all part of the National Education Association’s (NEA) Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss' birthday which are today, March 2. Students and staff also joined in the celebration with a host of events.
Ahysen read to kids at the Wonderland Head Start program. Williams visited Florida Boulevard Baptist Church daycare and Nelson was a guest reader at J.K. Haynes Elementary Charter School and Audubon Elementary School. They all read a Dr. Seuss book including "Cat in the Hat" and "Fox in Socks."
Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading. Motivating children to read is an important factor in student achievement and creating lifelong successful readers. Research has shown that children who are motivated and spend more time reading do better in school.
