It was a day to thank those who are making a difference in our community. The Power of 9 Honors Volunteer Recognition Luncheon was held Thursday, January 27 at Boudreaux's.
The luncheon was emceed by WAFB-TV Channel 9 Anchor Donna Britt. Britt spotlights an exceptional volunteer in the community each month on Channel 9. The 12 volunteers were recognized at the luncheon. WAFB General Manager Sandy Breland welcomed the hundreds of guests in attendance.
Volunteers that were recognized included Attorney Trippe Hawthorne who repairs bikes for those in need; Michael Clark who was called "the teenage superhero" who volunteers hundreds of hours; Tracy Howard with Hands On Baton Rouge who helps organize volunteer projects across the city, and Patricia Pine, the "Zoomobile lady" who works with BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo. The volunteers were presented a plaque and part of their TV segments were shown.
The program is sponsored by WAFB, Capital One Bank, Capital Area United Way, and Volunteer! United.
