Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) has been selected by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to offer a TSA Certificate Program for area Transportation Security Officers (TSOs).
The program, which is designed to provide TSOs with additional education and opportunities for career advancement, began on January 26 at the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport.
“BRCC is excited to be a part of this initiative,” says Myrtle E. B. Dorsey, BRCC Chancellor. “The men and women who serve with TSA work hard to make travel in the United States more secure, and we are proud to be able to provide them with additional resources in that endeavor.”
The curriculum consists of three college-credit courses including Introduction to Homeland Security, Intelligence Analysis & Security Technology, and Transportation and Border Security. Personnel from BRCC’s Learning Resource Center (LRC) will be available on-site at designated hours to assist program participants and TSA students will have full access to the college, including the LRC’s new online help system.
Upon completion, participants will receive a Certificate of Achievement from TSA. They will also be encouraged to continue their education toward an associate degree in BRCC’s Emergency Management or Criminal Justice program.
“Continuing education contributes to the career development of our security officers and strengthens TSA in the process,” said TSA Federal Security Director Johnny Eason.
