High winds blow down power poles

Two power poles fell along a Baton Rouge street Sunday morning due to high winds caused by Tropical Storm Lee, adding to the scattered outages across the metro area.

The poles on Greenwell Springs Road near Lobdell Boulevard.

Initially, 2,400 customers were without power because of the downed poles, but only 100 customers were impacted as of 11:30 a.m.

Overall, Entergy reported 843 customers were without power in greater Baton Rouge. Demco reported 337 of its customers were without power. A total of 189 of those customers are in Ascension Parish.

Extra crews will stay in place for the time being. Entergy officials want to remind customers to use caution when cleaning up their yards after the storm passes. Downed lines can get caught up in debris and obviously pose a danger.

If you should find a downed line, you should always treat it as a "hot line" and call Entergy or Demco to report the line.
